Guiding Principles

Guiding Principles

As a team, we believe in promoting a “person-centered” model of care that guides our approach to treatment and support strategies:

A world in which residents truly direct their own care and make their own choices about how they spend their time.

A world in which Caregivers are highly involved in decisions that are relevant to their jobs and the people they care for.

The residents, their families, and the staff are part of a thriving, independent community where individual and team-focused relationships matter.

Together, we promote an innovative system of care where new ways of individualizing care and creative approaches to common issues are freely shared.

We are responsive to our customers, passionate in our advocacy, principled in our approach and responsible in our actions.

Promote Dignity and Independence

We believe that promoting dignity and consistent independence is important in maintaining a person’s self-esteem. We provide a “real” home environment where activities of daily living occur in a low stress setting. We believe in creating a human habitat where life revolves around close and continuing contact with the outdoors, plants, animals, and children. It is these relationships that provide the young and old alike with a pathway to a life of worth and dignity.

Provide a Structured Setting

We believe that our residents benefit from a structured setting with permanently assigned staff. Our team shall be competent, consistently trained and skilled in person-centered care for all stages of life regardless of mental capacity or physical ability. We believe that the environment should permit a full range of unrestricted movement within a safe area. Offering skilled person-centered care interventions will provide freedom from physical restraints, psychotropic drugs and other medications used as chemical restraints in place of skilled person-centered care interventions.

Engage in Activity for Quality of Life

We believe that a person’s quality of life is enhanced when engaged in an atmosphere of meaningful and purposeful activity. We believe that our residents can thrive through daily programming specific to their needs, desires, preferences, and stage of disease process. We believe that activities serve as powerful coping mechanisms in times of frustration and stress. We believe in offering a variety of activities, as often as supports and meets each person’s core needs of love, identity, occupation, inclusion, comfort, and attachment. The variety of activities should be enjoyable and successful so everyone becomes a winner.

Value Each Individual

We believe that all people are of equal human value. We believe that each person is unique in talents and abilities. We believe that everyone deserves quality services. All persons have the right to be valued for who they are, be treated as individuals, build personal relationships, and to experience life in a supportive, positive social environment that respects and honors each resident, their families, staff, volunteers, and the community at large. We celebrate the diversity of the people who live and work at here.

Love and Understand

We believe that everyone needs ample loving, understanding, free respectful physical touch, and a sense of belonging regardless of individual limitations. Together, we will pledge to meet these needs to the best of our ability.

Acknowledge and Redirect

Because of our beliefs, we do not scold or punish negative behaviors. Instead, we choose to acknowledge the resident’s reality, redirect the person, modify the environment, and change our expectations.
