Caregiving Staff

Heartwood Senior Living has the highest caregiver staff-to-resident ratios in the Fox Valley.

Chief among Heartwood’s best practices is that we hire very good, qualified individuals and then continue to train them to help produce the highest quality of care available anywhere.

Continuous Training

Heartwood’s commitment to quality memory support and care for our elders begins with our commitment to training our caregiving staff members.

Each employee of a community-based retirement facility (CBRF) must have 30 hours of training within the first 90 days of employment, taught by a State of Wisconsin approved registered nurse. The training topics and all content are also approved by, and provided by the State.

Each Heartwood staff member receives an additional 20 hours of classroom training and 48 hours of in-house training which consists of job shadowing and competency completion before they are allowed to work independently.

Every Heartwood staff member receives a total of 98 hours of training in the first 30 days of employment.

Staff members receive approximately 30 hours of continuing education annually. The State of Wisconsin requires just 15 hours.

Caregiving staff members must show competency in the following areas to complete training:

  • Personal cares
  • Safe transfers
  • Inquiry and tours
  • Administration of medication
  • Resident rights
  • Dining services
  • Dementia
  • Challenging behaviors
  • Activities
  • Housekeeping
  • Laundry
  • Care plans
  • Charting
